You and your family are now petting and doting on the new, adorable little puppy that you brought home. But first thing’s first: What diet dog food plan are you going to give him?

It’s not at all surprising that many vegetarians consider a vegetarian diet dog food for their new little puppy.

The real question here is “can my dog be on a vegetarian diet and still be healthy”?

Dogs are born meat eaters, which is common knowledge. Nature made it that way. Dogs in the wild kill and devour animals all the time.

Also in the in the wild, a dog will eat grains and vegetables, but it has always contained meat. But just by the shape and set of their teeth, you can tell that dogs are omnivores.

If you take a good look at your dog’s teeth, you should see teeth made for tearing and grinding. It’s from this that we know they’re omnivores. So we have concluded that dogs eat both meat and plants.

Are you bound and determined that your dog should go on a vegetarian diet dog food plan? Well, it can be done.

In order for your dog to not only survive, but grow and stay healthy, he needs the best nutrition possible. He needs protein in his diet, which will give him energy, stamina, healthy skin, and a healthy coat of fur.

It is also extremely important that your dog get essential amino acids. There are ten amino acids that the dog’s body can’t produce, so this is a key to good health.

These can be given to your dog in the form of activated flaxseed oil, which has the Omega 6 fatty acids, and in salmon or some other cold water fish oil that contains the Omega 3 fatty acids.

Just as you would with any diet choice, you will want to do plenty of research before putting your dog on a vegetarian diet. Be sure to review all the options with your vet.
