Rugs - Cleaning My Area Rug

October 26th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

People often use methods which are wrong to get their area rugs cleaned up, like exposing the rugs in the sun. This leads to more damage to the rug rather. So there is some specific rules to be followed while cleaning an area rug and for good maintenance. rugs get dirty and so regular clean up is important.

Here are some tips that will help you in properly cleaning up an area rug:-

If some drinks or any other food material stains the rug, then you should blot or wipe the extra particles of the stain using a tissue or a soft cloth. Apply some water to loosen the stain mark. Before carrying on you should test the clean up in a inconspicuous area. Use some low concentration formula to remove the stain. The spot should be completely dried after clean up.

To clean area rugs that have a multi colour design, you should use a mixture of bleaching powder which does not have chlorine and lemon juice to sustain the colours of the rug. Do not use solvents which have hydrogen peroxide to clean stain marks as it can damage the rug fibres. Always consult professional cleaning experts for advice and tips on effective cleaning of your area rugs because they know what cleaning is needed. Professionals will have techniques that clean the area rugs without damaging it.

When you are cleaning by yourself make sure too avoid excessive shampooing and avoid dragging furniture’s over wet area rugs and do not add extra water because the drying will get delayed, seams of the area rug will tear, rugs will get discoloured, and it will give a stinky smell. Rinse out any extra detergent clot in the area rug and don’t use any strong solutions because it causes soiling of the area rugs and shrinkage. A ceiling fan will help in pacing up the drying process of the rugs and also helps in removing bad odour from the rug.

Vacuuming the area rug helps in preventing any build up of dirt inside the rug fibres. It also stops allergen growth and keeps the home clean. While vacuuming avoid the frazzle ends of the area rugs into the nozzle. The rugs should not be exposed to any direct sunlight because it will dampen the colour of the rug. So cover it up or block the sunlight. These tips will help in maintaining your area rugs.

Be sure to check with the manufacturers instructions before undertaking any cleaning as special rugs like bamboo area rugs and flokati wool rugs will have their own special cleaning requirements.

Creating A Custom Closet

October 25th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

This is the season I like best of all. That’s not only because of the red, and orange, and yellow of the falling autumn leaves or the mouth-watering, spicy aroma of fresh pumpkin pies or even because I’m thinking about the wonderful holidays which are coming up very soon. I also adore putting away all my summery clothing and unpacking all my cozy, wooly sweaters, coats and slacks.

The only negative is the fact that I seem to have less clothing to store away than I did last year, and I bring less items out of their summer storage, which makes me overcompensate for that which I am missing. This is when I tend to head out to local shops and return home with many bags of clothing that I have picked up.

Returning with these items I am forced to realize that my Closets was already overly full of clothing. What is my solution to this annual dilemma? Head back out to the store and look for organizing solutions that will allow me to keep the old clothes that I like as well as fit my new clothing.

Anywhere that you can get cheap supplies is a good place to get Closet organization materials. These materials are great for building a custom organizing solution. Everyone agrees that it is better to organize your Custom Closets rather than use a standard solution. For example, everyone has a different wardrobe. I absolutely adore flip flops and have tons of them, but my friends don’t have many and so don’t need as much shoe organization.

I prefer to customize my clothing space through removable and exchangeable pieces. Some of the best places to customize your space with removable, exchangeable, multi-functional and pieces that are also able to be rearranged are Ikea, Home Depot (or your local hardware/shelving/etc… store), or places like Kmart and Walmart. Many of these places have already-assembled pieces that are good for those looking for a “custom” look without all of the hassle of picking out your own pieces. However, these types of stores also offer products that you can pick and choose to assemble together to fit your needs!

If you would like to customize your messy, disorganized closets, but you don’t want to do the actual shopping or work yourself, you can take a closer look online at some of the custom installation sites. By performing a simple search you can find examples of what there is out there. In most cases, these customizations are permanent, and you will have no options for reorganizing or reconfiguring at a later date.

You can go to a department store where you can get a consultation, and some even offer in home consultations. Once you have more space you can shop till you drop and you’ll have all the conveniences of an organized closet.

Only this time it is to find a solution to the problem of a disorganized and overstuffed closet so that I am not forced to part with my old wardrobe to make way for the new.Good places to find components to customize your space with interchangeable, removable multi-function parts are in stores such as Ikea, Kmart and Walmart or Home Depot (or even your local hardware store). Most of these stores have pre-assembled pieces which will give you that certain custom look without having to choose the items yourself.

Closet Organization: A Necessity That’s About Customization!

October 25th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

This time of year is the one I like the most. It isn’t because of the fall colors in the leaves in the yard or the smells of pumpkin and spice, not even the fact that Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming soon, even though all of these things are wonderful parts of my love of fall! I like this time of year because I put away all of my summer clothing, and get to bring out all of my favorite winter weather clothing, from warm sweaters, to jackets and pants.

The bad thing is that year after year, I tend to bring out less clothing for each season and store more each year, and then I have to shop for missing items. So as usual I’m out shopping at my local store and come home with tons of bags.

When building a house or moving, one must decide how to organize Closets. An already overstuffed Closet makes it imposiible for me to find room for the new items. This leaves only one option open, that is make a dash for another shopping spree. Only this time it is to find a solution to the problem of a disorganized and overstuffed closet so that I am not forced to part with my old wardrobe to make way for the new.

The best place for a little organizing Custom Closets is most certainly anywhere where you can get cheap supplies. Anyone would prefer custom closet organization over any other. This is because, let’s face it, no one has the exact same wardrobe; and I, unlike many of my friends have a flip-flop fetish that needs to be attended to. I have so many flip flops and other shoes that I need something for shoe organization that’s a little more extensive than others.

Personally, I like to make my clothing space suit my needs by using removable and exchangeable pieces of hardware. You can find these pieces easily at stores like Ikea and Home Depot, or discount retailers like Target and Walmart, as well as a local hardware store. These stores will probably sell individual pieces as well as sets of matching hardware, which can provide a customized look without much labor on your part. If you’d like to put together your own set of pieces, though, these stores will also help you to do that successfully.

For those of you who are looking to customize that over-flowing and unorganized mess that you call a closet, but aren’t so willing to do the shopping and/or installation yourself- you can browse through some custom installation sites online. These sites can be found through simple searches and in most cases, they involve permanent customization (i.e., no removable/re-organizational options…they are forever!!!).

You can go to a department store where you can get a consultation, and some even offer in home consultations. Once you have more space you can shop till you drop and you’ll have all the conveniences of an organized closet.

The Fall is my favorite time of year, not only because of the changing colors of the leaves outside, or the fall smells, or the upcoming holiday season, of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Get Free Knowledgebase to Feng Shui Bedrooms - Helpful Secrets

October 20th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

Useful tips about Feng Shui in the bedroom - read and implement.

Since we are spending one-third of our time in our bedroom; therefore, it is wise to think about Feng Shui bedrooms.

Here are 8 important secrets to making sure our bedroom is fitting the best Feng Shui.

1. Do not put mirrors in the bedroom. Actually there is no place for a mirror if authentic Feng Shui guidelines are followed to the letter because it is believed that mirrors can bounce energies back and forth and thus create an unlimited source of moving energies, which is not ideal in the bedroom where one is supposed to be taking a rest. So, if the functionality of a mirror is desired, have it covered when it’s not in use and only open the cover to use the mirror when necessary.

2. Make sure the lighting in the bedroom is neither too much nor too little. When it’s too much, then the Yang energy is too dominant. It makes it hard for anyone to fall asleep when too much Yang energy is available. When it’s too dim or dark in the bedroom, then such condition is symbolic of too much Yin energy, which makes it hard for anyone to function in the bedroom either.

3. Only put your favorable objects in the bedroom - those that remind you of fond memories and experiences and will bring a smile to you face when being thought of. Do not allow anything that represents unresolved issues that are bothersome by nature in the bedroom because as it is well understood now that everything carries their own vibration, and that physical objects do store memories energetically too. By allowing such objects of negative nature into the bedroom people will be subject to the negative signals sent off by these objects subliminally, thereby causing many unnecessary problems in life.

4. By all means, avoid creating “clutters” and always aim to “de-clutter” on a regular basis. These “clutters” are those big piles of things that are left sitting or standing somewhere in the room. Often times, when people are going through their daily lives so busily, they’d tend to overlook the importance of keeping the space tidy and devoid of “unattended’ structures. When these structures start to grow up on their own, they turn into “blockages” or “obstacles” that “stand in the way” in physical as well as metaphysical sense. When these “clutters” are formed, “obstacles” are created that will block the smooth flow of energies physically and metaphysically. Therefore, when things are not working out the way they should, start to “de-clutter” as this is one sure-fire way to right the wrong when it comes to reclaiming the good and smooth flow of energy. This is so much more true when it comes to creating good Feng Shui in bedroom.

5. Choosing the right color scheme is very important for getting good Feng Shui in the bedroom as well. Since the bedroom is mostly used for resting our body, mind and spirit, softer color scheme is much preferred to those that are dynamic by nature. Since every color has its own intensity, always choose the low intensity version of the colors to be applied. This way the choices of colors will still be plentiful because one can always choose whatever colors one likes to go along with the plan of creating good Feng Shui in the bedroom.

6. It is always a good Feng Shui idea for the bed to have a headboard with it. Yes, many a bed does not have any headboard because of its special styling. But those that do have headboard are more preferred when it comes to creating good Feng Shui in the bedroom because this insignificant feature provides the most needed “back support” - “backup” - that is very important in terms of good Feng Shui. So, always go for those beds that have this feature next time when a new bed is to be purchased.

7. The bed should be located in the bedroom in such a way that it gives you a secured, stable and comfortable feeling when you’re sleeping on it. It should be leaned right against the wall and there shouldn’t be any space between the headboard and the wall. This is also for the “solid” support that any good Feng Shui setup will have. Never leave any space in between the headboard and the wall or else one will wake up feeling “spacey” and “not grounded” during the day.

8. The bedroom should be located as far away from the main entrance as possible because in authentic Feng Shui practice, the functionality of the Yin and Yang is very carefully configured. In this case, the Yin aspect of the house is our bedroom, and thus it needs to be not mixed up with its counterpart, the Yang, which is the main entrance of the house. The truly amazing power of Feng Shui will be made more evident when the Yin and Yang functionalities are clearly defined and put to work. Therefore, in order to create good Feng Shui in the bedroom, one is to try arranging the overall setup of the house according to this requirement as much as possible right from the beginning stage of building the house.

Advice On Wrought Iron

October 18th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

Wrought Iron Furniture

Out of the hardwood cedar comes cedar garden furniture, a mainstay of many North American decks and patios. A clear grade western red cedar commonly used to make outdoor garden furniture. A major concern that many people have about outdoors furniture is how it will thrive in different types of weather. For many living in the northern most part of the United States, a real consideration that has to be taken into account when buying garden furniture is whether or not it can stand up to the snow, sleet, and hail.

Wrought Iron Furniture

In western red cedar, natural oil preserves the wood and helps it resist rot and decay, making it ideal for these conditions. Many people across the United States went crazy for the Adirondack Chair when it premiered because it was the first such piece of furniture to come out of this wood. For this reason, park benches commissioned by the federal government began to be made out of this extremely durable wood. During the Great Depression, many of these benches were worked on by people in the WPA. The WPA was a work program created by President Roosevelt at the time to help those in this country who were unemployed. During the period, many members of the WPA went into the forest and cut down cedar trees to make items like park benches from the cedar trees.

Cedar also was used quite heavily in the making of chests because the wood kept the materials and the chest safe from mildew or mold. Sailors - who used the chests while they were away at sea - particularly liked this piece of furniture. Also during this time period, funeral directors began using cedar and pine to build coffins. Doctors hailing from England were proponents of using cedar coffins to bury the dead because they believed it would halt the spread of disease. There have been many uses for a wood as diverse as cedar.

Many people today use their cedar garden furniture to decorate their patio or decks. Cedar furniture is beautiful and durable, and for these same reasons, many use the wood for inlaying of their patio and gardens. Cedar made accessories, such as serving trays and carts, are easily available from Wal-Mart, Target, and other stores. Two department stores that sell cedar garden furniture are Sears and J.C.Pennies fairly inexpensively but many other places do as well. If shopping on the internet is more your style, you can purchase from The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company. The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company will also make furniture items tailored to your specific requirements.

Wrought Iron Accessories

In addition, The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company carries a diverse line of accessories for any deck or patio. This company is very dedicated to making great cedar garden furniture that they take immense pride of. All pieces have a finely sanded finish and handcrafted for a snug fit.

How To Use Area Rugs To Highlight Your Existing Floor

October 16th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

Let’s face it, we can’t just run out and buy new carpet every time we get a stain on the carpet. It’s just not possible to afford it all the time. The only way to achieve a clean look is to get rid of your carpet and invest in hard floors. You don’t need to save up all your money and purchase hardwood flooring. You can add linoleum, tile, or any other flooring that is available at a more affordable price.

If you already have hardwood flooring, linoleum, tile, or other flooring and notice that it might be looking dingy or old you can give your floors a make over in just a few seconds…throw a rug over it. But you need to know how to use an area rug first.

After taking the time to scrub your floors you can add a simple rug over the floor that will enhance the look of your room. This rug can also be used to hide bad spots on your floor until you can take the time to do something else.

So how do you know what size rug do you need to look for when you go out to find that perfect rug? You should find a rug that covers the area that you are looking to cover plus at least five inches on all sides. This will allow you to cover the area and make the rug blend in with the rest of the floor.

If you want an area rug to cover an entire room of hard wood flooring you will need to measure the area that you want covered but leave between five and eight inches of hardwood showing all around. Hardwood flooring can show wear over the years. It’s hard to make the flooring look new again without investing in expensive replacement. Sometimes adding area rugs over certain areas can save your floor from a lot of wear. You can alternate by adding the area rug through the winter months and taking it off during the spring and summer months.

There are other things you can do to save your hard wood flooring such as adding foam or pieces of carpeting under the furniture legs to prevent indentions, scuffing or scraping. You can also add area rugs in front of the sofa, chairs or the main walk way through the room. If you have little ones in your home you may want to consider adding rug pads underneath the area rugs to prevent slipping and sliding which may result in injuries. Adding little rugs in the entrances of the room will also save on wear of your hardwood flooring.

If you are not sure what color area rug to go with, consider one of your favorite paintings on the wall or your favorite fabric in the room. Look for the color least used and bring it out with an area rug. This will not only highlight that color but it will blend the room perfectly.

Essential Organizing The Home Suggestions

October 15th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

With the help of all the family, identify time wasters at home. Here’s some examples:

miscommunication
misplaced objects and personal effects
documents and papers not filed
too many magazines and CDs left lying about
mistakes
indecision
inefficient use of family vehicles
too much TV viewing
different meal times
non-adherence to curfew rules
friends who hang around indefinitely

Divide and delegate house chores
Of course you can’t do it all. So it’s time for a strategy: plan a nice dinner for all the on one long weekend, and tell them in advance that you have something to discuss. Cook them a special dish or two and whip up a dessert that everyone will love.

At the conclusion of the meal, tell them that you want to make some changes around home. Say that you’ve been procrastinating in doing some important jobs around the home because you lack their support.

Bring up your divide and delegate plan, ask them for suggestions, and get everyone’s commitment. Your concrete, well laid-out plan will get you the results you want.

Prepare a chore chart after division of labor is decided.
As the initiator of the plan, you must be the first to set the example. If you committed to re-organize the cupboards and clean out the fridge once a week, do it. When everyone sees you’re doing your part, they’ll do theirs.

Set up a chart in the kitchen or in the TV room where everyone can cross out the task once it’s completed. Check the chart once a week; tell them how pleased you are with their progress. If some members have been delinquent, ask them why. Don’t scold, give them another chance. This chart is an effective way for you to identify who the biggest procrastinators are, and you may need to supervise them more closely.

Begin with small tasks to start with to get everyone’s cooperation.
If a large task is assigned the first time, that person is likely to procrastinate. Much better to divide up the job in small parts.

Let’s take re-painting the entire garage as an example. If your husband works the usual 8 hours a day, don’t expect him to paint the whole garage in a single weekend. Don’t forget the old paint needs to come off, some sanding has to be done, and primer needs to be applied. If you have a closed, double-car garage, divide the job by walls, or by a quarter of a wall at a time. You don’t want your husband to feel overwhelmed, forcing him to think of excuses to put it off. Far better to break it down into tasks or into areas.

Deciding Among Futon, Air, And Tempurpedic Mattress Types

October 15th, 2008 by Decor Guru   Subscribe To Our Feed

Most individuals realise the significance of having a good night’s sleep, and one of the superior elements of attaining this is doubtlessly a comfortable and supporting mattress.

There’s a mountain of mattress producers for one to choose from, and also a lot of unique types of mattress. Of course picking out any certain one will depend on various elements such as the size of bed that you own, and the comfort setting you favour.

Tempur pedic mattress are frequently remarked as one of the optimum mattress types you can purchase. Its benefits come in the form of ease on key pressure points on the body, and positioning the body and spine joints in a normal way that improves comfort. You will have almost certainly caught the adverts for these mattresses on television where a hand is placed on the mattress and after removal the mattress proceeds to its original shape. This is due to the visco-elastic attributes of Tempurpedic mattresses that make them immune to shifts in shape, and also able to react to shifts in body temperature and pressure.

Another favorite type of mattress is the air mattress. This type of mattress is excellent at keeping dust mites and other microorganisms from infesting the mattress. Of course the primary feature of this type of mattress is the inflatable and adjustable chambers within. This grants buyers to adjust how firm or soft you would like the mattress to be by utilising remote control. Most air mattresses will have two separate chambers so that users on either side of the mattress are able to set their own preference.

For people who require the tractability of a seating area and somewhere to rest, then a futon mattress might be what you are looking for. Mattress for Futon is filled with synthetic or cotton batting and foam. They are constructed so that they can be easily closed down if need be, and comfortable enough to become a bed to sleep on. Numerous people who possess futon beds even lay claim that they favor the support and comfort of a futon mattress ahead of their normal bed. You might learn that cotton futon mattresses are frequently the most highly recommended among clients. This is because they can sustain balanced temperatures and even humidity.

These are just a few of the mattresses that you’ll find when buying your new mattress. Once you’ve decided on the type of mattress that you desire, next is the difficult task of choosing the brand of mattress that offers best value for money. Checking out mattress reviews on the internet can surely help make this task a good lot simpler.
