Modern Bathroom Cabinets And Vanities: Multipurpose Fixtures For Your Bathroom

More often than not, we spend a lot of money in order to achieve a panoramic bath space. We purchase vessel sink vanities to establish focal points inside the bathroom, and we put our money on artistic cabinets so as to cover our bathroom walls. Despite these things though, it must be realized that a bath space would never look good even with grandiose furnishings if it is not organized and clean. Always consider that the most important function of cabinets and vanities is the storage they provide and not their aesthetic value.

Regardless how visually pleasing your modern vanity and cabinet might be, they will never be useful if you only value them for these aesthetic features. Hence, in order to maximize the potentials of these storage fixtures, you may want to utilize them to keep your bathroom things organized by following the simple guidelines below. From your medicine or walk-in cabinets to your vanity, these fixtures would become your best friends when it comes to keeping your bathroom organized and clutter free. After following these tips, your will definitely notice the difference between a beautiful bathroom and a make-believe beautiful bath space.

To start with, remove all the products inside your modern vanity, medicine and walk-in cabinets and arrange them in a pile together. Dispose off all expired products because aside from the extra space they accumulate they also posit health risks for you and your family. After the elimination process, check the items that are left; some of these may not be used on a regular basis but should not be discarded as they can be useful for you in the future, and some of these things would be used daily that you have to store them properly. Organize these remaining items according to their functions; segregate toiletries from cosmetics and medicines.

For the cosmetics, keep them inside the drawer storage of your modern vanity. Because vanities often hold mirrors, placing your cosmetics inside your vanity drawer would make it easier for you to search for your cosmetics whenever you are preparing for office or some events. You could also designate individual vanity drawers for your used and unused toiletries. If you are a bit forgetful, the best thing to do is to put labels near the drawer handles and categorize them according to shaving, dental, cosmetic, hair care etc.

For modern bathroom cabinets that hold medicines, try to reserve the first shelf of these cabinets for the medicines you consume daily. Then, arrange the additional shelves according to usage; remember that aside from medicines you can use these spaces for storing products that have expiration dates. Hence, items that are rarely used should be situated on higher shelves. Try to make sure though that your medicine cabinets are tucked away from the reach of children.

Once you are through with your toiletries, cosmetics and medicines, the next items that you should tackle are your sundry bathroom thing which include bath towels, washcloths, hand towels, and bath sheets. Usually, these bathroom stuff are kept inside modern bathroom cabinets; however, instead of shoving them inside these spaces, it is advised to fold them neatly and place them according to their use so that you could get them easily. Toys could also be major contributors for bathroom clutter; hence, designate at least two or three drawers from your cabinets where your kids can store their toys after use, but be sure to dry them first before placing them inside these areas to avoid mold and mildew growth.

Modern Bathroom Cabinets and vanities are often purchased by homeowners for their aesthetic appeal. More than these beautiful features however, cabinets and vanities are great storage fixtures that could keep the bathroom organized and free from clutter. For instance, modern vanity pieces, regardless if they are vessel sink vanities or standard vanities, could double as storage areas for toiletries and cosmetics.

Wall Fountain Installation And Table Top Fountain Set Up

Indoor wall fountains are decorative pieces that could transform a dull looking space into the focal point of a home. They instantaneously produce a relaxing environment through the sound of cascading water outlining the wall. More often than not, these water features are placed at the entry ways so that they could be immediately seen by visitors and family members alike. However, if you truly want to maximize the design prowess of these fountains, you may want to try including them on the main interior design of your home to create a different vibe that would enamor your visitors for much longer.

To install wall fountains, it is necessary to have drywall anchors, screw driver, a pencil, a drill and a hammer at your disposal. Before your start drilling on your wall, make sure that you have read all the necessary instructions included on the package of your wall fountain. It is important to note that some fountains are already set up and only needs hanging, while there are also some types that have parts that needs to be connected before they can be used. Don’t fret though as majority of the connections needed to be done for unset fountains are all direct processes, making them easier to set up; however, it is always best to look at instructions to get to know things more because fountain models still vary from one another.

The next thing to do is to locate the best possible flat wall surface where the water will flow smoothly, but a wall with ridges, curves and other patterns could also make a more dramatic effect for your water fountain. Properly mark the wall where the fountain will be mounted so that you can properly position your water feature. Once you finish this, decide on how you will hang your fountain. Basically, wall fountains can be mounted in two ways: the first one is to have slots at the back of the fountain where you can insert the screws, and the second one is by placing a bracket on the wall, which is an easier option as it is less extensive to do and is more appropriate for a large wall fountain.

Because the second option is always the easiest means to install a wall mounted fountain, the next step is to drill holes on the wall where you will place the anchors that will support the fountain brackets. Once the anchors and brackets are in place, you can now hang your wall fountain carefully. Before plugging, make sure you fill it with enough water until the pump is covered, but not full enough as the water might overflow from the edge of the basin. If all the things are set, you can now plug your wall fountain and enjoy its beautiful and stress relieving prowess.

If you’re a bit tight on budget but you still want to have your own water feature, you can simply opt for a homemade tabletop fountain. This pint sized water feature is an enjoyable project that you can actually make with simple objects. The materials you need are plastic tubing, a small water pump, decorative stones, and a bowl of your preferred size and design. To begin your project, place the water pump inside the bowl and then attach the plastic tubing to the pump.

After placing the pump and tube inside the bowl, fill it with your decorative stones to make it more beautiful to look at. These colorful stones can also camouflage your pump’s cord, but if the accents cannot do such, you can simply hide the cord by taping it on the side of the bowl and place some exterior accents. Then, slowly add water inside the bowl enough to cover the pump. After doing this, you can now plug the cord and luxuriate in the flowing water of your very own tabletop fountain.

Wall fountains are nice water features that could accentuate a dull looking wall inside homes. A wall mounted fountain can be installed easily with the use of simple household materials. In fact, you can do it yourself or with a help of a friend. Similar to this, the tabletop fountain is also easy to create, and an enjoyable home project that you and your kids can enjoy doing.

Keeping It Up With Contemporary Bath Vanity And Cabinet Trends

A modern bathroom requires the use of contemporary furnishings that are not only highly functional and durable but also aesthetically appealing. To keep up with the changing designs in bath spaces, homeowners and home designers alike should be aware of emerging bathroom fixtures’ trends. It is by doing so that they would be able to create a distinctive touch to the look and feel of their bath spaces. Today, contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinetry are among the most popular bathroom furnishings that have undergone extreme shifts in design and quality.

Basically, the notion of basic luxury has always been attractive for homeowners who are eager to escape from their fast paced lifestyle and daily worries. This desire is evident inside the bathroom, which from the once utilitarian space has turned into an ultimate getaway inside the comfort of one’s home. Nevertheless, as bath spaces are also becoming larger, these modern pieces are also intentionally customized in order to complement these spaces properly.

Manufacturers of contemporary bathroom vanities today are notably using raw materials for such fixtures. Though wood remains as the classic material for vanities that is still popular today, recent vanity trends gave rise to the use of materials such as metals, glass and natural stones; all of which are becoming essential materials for modern vanities. Compared to wood, the aforementioned materials are non-porous or are not permeated by water which makes them a must have for bathroom designs. Likewise, because they are not permeable by water, bacteria and microorganism build up are lessen.

Color reinvention or combination is another rising trend in modern bath vanity and bathroom designs, as this is one of the most economical means to heighten the drama inside the bath space. In actuality, your bath vanity can serve as the jump off point for the overall color scheme of your bathroom. For example, if you’re feeling bold, you can simply use the complimentary scheme look for your bath area, wherein you will take two colors that are exact opposites on the color wheel such as navy or yellow; the first one being the color of your vanity and the latter as the color of your bathroom walls. In effect, not only does your vanity stand out, it also creates a different feel of comfort.

As the aphorism bigger is better applies to the bath spaces of today, contemporary bathroom vanities are also designed to fit this philosophy. In fact, vanities today are now designed as free standing furnishings that combine sink, mirror and cabinetry in a single fixture. In some cases, vanities are customized so as to make them bigger than the usual sizes found in the market, to fit larger bath spaces such as those found in luxury hotels.

Sometimes the best way to achieve a modern looking bathroom is to borrow a furniture design idea from the past. Incorporating a retro, vintage or perhaps a classic feel inside your bathroom is one definitive way to make your bath space look edgier; however, the only challenge with these themes is how to make the bath space to still appear contemporary. What you can actually do is to place one large piece of modern furnishing such as a contemporary bathroom cabinet inside your bath and then you can integrate some furnishings from yesteryears. Be careful in choosing and placing old fixtures though because the last thing that you would want is your bathroom totally looking like a blast from the past.

Contemporary bathroom vanities are making waves in modern bathroom interior design. This is because a modern bath vanity has the power to transform the overall look of a bathroom along with a sleek contemporary bath cabinet. These bathroom furnishings are evolving significantly in order to complement the changing aesthetic standards of bath spaces. Definitely they are furnishings that would never fade in terms of design and quality.

Over the last decade, modern chandeliers have always captured our attention and interest. In fact, luxurious hotels, homes and restaurants would not be complete without these ceiling fixtures that truly add appeal to their interior designs. However, as much as we appreciate these beautiful pieces, it is also essential to know their parts in order to help them operate at their best. Though each chandelier has unique qualities of its own, most if not all of these hanged lighting share the same parts, which if we could properly identify and understand would make it easier for us to point out if there is something wrong with our own lighting fixture.

Modern chandeliers are very nice fixtures that could truly create wonders to enhance interior appearance. However, wouldn’t these fixtures become more appealing if they function accordingly because all of their parts are working right? Knowing the parts of your chandelier requires more than being aware what their names are but it is more important to realize that they have individual responsibilities. Although chandelier manufacturers would hand you with installation manuals, these resources does not necessarily identify the parts of your chandelier as well as their importance.

As crystal chandelier is perhaps the most common chandelier design in use today, it is best to identify its parts and their functions. To start with, the main part of a crystal ceiling fixture is certainly the crystal itself. Crystal pieces are the decorative features of chandeliers. These natural stones are available in a variety of sizes, cuts and colors, and can also be bought in a whole range of prizes.

The next part is the arm or arms, which extends from the body of the lighting fixture and branches outward of the body. It serves as the primary holder for all the miscellaneous parts of the chandelier. They are usually made from metals such as brass or wrought iron, which is commonly seen from wrought iron chandelier fixtures, while some grandiose chandeliers have arms that are made from glass and other synthetic materials. Traditional chandelier arms are often shaped in an S pattern, but more contemporary ones take more complicated forms like swirls and the likes.

The candle is part of a crystal chandelier that functions as the light producer. For traditional chandeliers, candles may literally refer to wax candles, which are common for old chandeliers, while for contemporary chandelier fixtures, the candles may actually refer to the bulbs found at the end of the arms. These candles are usually held by candle cups, which stands as the catcher of candle drippings for traditional chandeliers, but also functions as decorative parts for contemporary chandeliers. Chandelier candles combines well with crystal pieces as they beautifully reflect the lights produced.

Other than the crystal, arms and candles, crystal chandelier have several miscellaneous parts that helps it to function properly. The socket, bulbs and converters are electrical parts that allows the chandelier to emit light with the use of electricity. On the other hand, the chains, canopies and collars serve as the pieces that keeps the chandelier properly suspended on your ceiling. By understanding the parts and functions of your chandelier, you will definitely maximize its efficiency.

Modern chandeliers have distinct parts that help them function properly. Regardless if you are using wrought iron chandelier or crystal chandelier, it is important to understand each of its parts in order to maximize your chandelier fixture’s efficiency and design prowess. While you often tend to disregard the tiny parts of your lighting piece, you may not know it but these small pieces may actually serve as the main power source of your chandelier.

Before purchasing modern vanities, there are a few things potential buyers need to keep in mind. It is indispensable that you make plans for any new vanity or furnishing. These plans include resolving logistics and location issues, deciding on the design sense, plumbing and lighting considerations, reordering or redecorating the bathroom, and so on.

If planned well enough, you may arrange to install the vanity yourself. This is dependent on how your house’s bathroom is setup, but modern vanities themselves are designed for ease of installation. In many situations, a day is all you’ll need to finish it. You might also prefer refinishing your existing vanities instead of replacing them outright. This is more likely preferable if it still works for you.

If your existing vanities are no longer functional or attractive, it’s time to get modern vanities, that use the latest technologies available, like new building materials and better functioning parts. Updating Your Fireplace Surrounds

A traditional gas or wood burning fireplace is composed of hearth, mantel and surrounds. More often than not, homeowners tend to accentuate the hearth and mantel believing that surrounds are not as equally important as these two when it comes to decorative capabilities. However, it must also be considered that fireplace surrounds have the same design capacity as the hearth and mantel. If properly constructed with fire resistant materials, chances are, your surrounds could turn as the major decorative feature of your fireplace.

Fireplace surrounds of traditional wood and gas burning fireplace were usually constructed from hand carved wood. Currently though, more contemporary non-porous and fire resistant natural stone products like bricks, tiles, marbles and limestone serves as alternatives for wood surrounds. Many homeowners now make use of these materials because they are safer and are also visually enticing. Likewise, they are inexpensive alternatives to wood surrounds as these natural stones demands less design labor, unlike their wood counterparts that needs hand carved detailing which is to laborious to make.

In order to update the aesthetics of your fireplace, you could simply start your project with your fireplace surrounds. There’s no limit as to what you can do with the natural stone materials mentioned earlier. To achieve a rustic fireplace, using limestone surrounds could definitely accentuate this style most especially if you partner it with furniture pieces that are either green or earth tones. If your house is European inspired, you could further highlight this feature by using marble surrounds that are truly sophisticated especially if they are of darker tones.

If you have a traditional fireplace that holds both the surrounds and mantel, which is more commonly referred to as fireplace mantel surrounds, the materials that works well with it are bricks. As bricks usually have a fired color in them, incorporating them as your mantel surrounds could surely induce a classic look on your fireplace, which in turn could become the jumpstart point for your overall interior design. Similarly, the alternating courses of headers and stretchers that are often achieved by stacking bricks on top of each other are resonant of the beautiful and popular brick structures like the Chile house in Germany and the Thorbury Castle in England; so, if you use brick surrounds it would be like having your own famous brick landmark inside the comfort of your home. If you’re not into classical design though and would like to have a contemporary brick surrounds instead, what you can do is to paint the bricks with a darker hue that is of the same color family as your living room walls.

Similar to bricks, tiles are also perfect materials to achieve softer looking fireplace mantel surrounds. By combining mosaic glass tiles or pebble tiles into an image or pattern, you could surely make your surrounds appear more representative of your personality. If you lack the patience and creativity to put tiles together, you can have your tile surrounds digitally customized for you; this technique uses digital manipulation over the tile to create certain images or murals, but this could cost you an arm and a leg so better be prepared with your money if you want to have this type of tile surrounds. The design possibilities of tiles are endless, all you have to do is to be imaginative about what design you want to incorporate on your surrounds.

Meanwhile, if you are living in the city and you want a quick fix fireplace that you don’t have to redesign to update its looks; faux electric fireplace is suitable for you. The good thing about this fireplace type is that it does not necessarily have to be permanently positioned in one place; as it is portable, you can place it anywhere according to your own preference. Some electric fireplace fixtures also come with mantel and surrounds that you can redecorate just like traditional wood or gas burning fireplace. All in all, with the design prowess of your surrounds, a simple material update can make your fireplace appear more appealing.

Changing the materials you use for your fireplace surrounds or fireplace mantle surrounds could significantly transform your fireplace as the focal decorative feature of your home. Natural stone products like bricks, marbles, tiles and limestone could do wonders for the aesthetics of traditional wood or gas burning fireplace. If you use a faux electric fireplace, the best thing to do to update its look is by changing its surrounds with glass panel which could improve the appearance of simulated fire.

Bath vanities: Buying a unique vanity for your unique home

When walking into a bathroom or powder room, the first thing people notice is the bathroom vanity. It’s that furniture or fixture that holds the sink and, oftentimes, work as storage area, too. It comes in many shapes, sizes, height, designs and colors that it’s always a surprise to enter a well-modeled bathroom and see the uniqueness of the bathroom vanity installed. But even though it’s easy to change bath vanities, finding and picking the right one isn’t so simple. In fact, there’s a lot to consider on both functionality and style before buying a bathroom vanity.

Before identifying what physical attributes you want in your vanity, measure first the available space in your bathroom. The last thing you want is a large vanity to overwhelm a tiny bathroom or a small vanity that fails to explore the available space. Then work on your interior design theme which would be used as basis in choosing your vanity. It could scream ultra modern, elegantly traditional or chic minimalist - the general idea is to stick to it. Attention to these elements would reduce the chances of buying a seemingly misplaced vanity.

Special considerations regarding space and functionality can easily be addressed by the various vanity styles in the market. Bath vanities used by children, for example, must have the appropriate height and materials for their convenience and safety. Never buy those with sharp edges or glass-made ones, especially those susceptible to cracks, nicks and scraps. Meanwhile, a bathroom used by two or more people can be more flexible with a bathroom double sink vanity, while a limited bathroom space can look spacious and organized with a corner bathroom vanity or a wall-mounted vanity with an under-sink cabinet.

Vanity styles can generally be categorized as traditional, contemporary or a hybrid of both. The traditional style targets the look of colonial elegance with antiques or antique-looking vanities. Cultured marble and granite are common materials of traditional vanities. The contemporary vanities have a more modern and sleek look with the use of hard woods, steel, stone and glass. The European look is an example of mixing both styles. It has darker wood tones, like mahogany or cherry, that gives it an “aged” charm while its design, a protruding sink bowl and downward curving doors, gives it a modern kick.

Materials often depend on the style but combining various materials while maintaining the tone desired has become a trend. Glass and wood are examples of a flexible material used for traditional, modern, even artistic vanities, especially when combined together. But be warned that glass gets scratches easily while wood can get damaged with long-term water exposure. Other popular materials choices are metal, marble and granite for vessel sinks and countertops because of its durability.

Buying bath vanities can be done online or by shopping around. You can easily buy pre-assembled vanities from building supply stores and they can deliver and install your vanity for you. Ordering online is also cheap and convenient except you have to install it yourself. Another alternative is to ask a custom cabinet maker to build a vanity for you, one that suits your family’s and bathroom needs. It’s more expensive but a small price to pay for a perfect vanity.

Lastly, choose your mirror, medicine cabinet and light fixtures well. If it doesn’t match your beautiful new vanity, then the look of your bathroom could get ruined, all because of missing or out-of-place vanity accents.

Bath vanities come in many styles, shapes, colors and designs, and its just so because every home has a different personality and needs. Stepping into a house with antique bathroom vanities can transform you to the regal years, while having a bathroom double sink vanity can take you and your partner to that honeymoon stage all over again. There are many choices for bathroom vanities, the trick is to find one that says something about you and your home.

How to Install Hardwood Flooring Without Headaches

Are you going to learn how to install hardwood flooring? First thing’s first: You need to choose the flooring. There are dozens of options for kinds of flooring these days, some of which are installed traditionally, and some of which snap together.

The nice thing about laminates and snap-together hardwood flooring is that they come with installation instructions. For traditional hardwood flooring, there are several steps to follow.

You need to put down the flooring base first. Before you begin, remove the baseboards. Remember, the subfloor needs to be clean, dry, and level.

Now, regardless of whether you’re picking up the flooring yourself from a home improvement store or having it delivered, you want to time it so that the wood will be stacked in your house for a few days before the project. Remember, wood is a natural material that’s sensitive to temperature and humidity levels; it expands and contracts. It won’t fit properly if you don’t give it time to adjust to your home.

When you’re considering how to install hardwood flooring, you must determine the direction in which the floor joists (supports) run, and mark their position at the base of the walls for reference. Get some 15-point asphalt felt and layer it down on top of your subfloor.

This will minimize creaks and squeaks, and it also provides protection against moisture. If you’re installing the hardwood floor in your bathroom or kitchen, this step is especially important.

Mark the centerline of your room to indicate the position for the first board. As you install the flooring, be sure to leave a gap of 1/2 inches at the walls.

You’ll want to use a nail set to finish hammering in each nail. This way, your hammer won’t indent your wood. The first three boards or so should be nailed in by hand, even if you’re using a pneumatic flooring nailer. This will keep them from shifting.

It is not difficult to learn how to install hardwood flooring, but it is a time-consuming and precise project.

Make sure to visit How to Install for more tips on everything from How to Install a Window to How to Install Shingles.
