Easy Design Garden Features For Dummies

Looking at features you can have in your landscaping other than vegetation, we’ll take a look at some different materials that aren’t generally thought of as landscaping decor or accents. Everyday materials can be decorative additions to your landscaping which can fill bare areas, add a feeling of space, and give your yard a more fulfilling appearance.

While objects such as buildings or lights are not normally thought of as design materials, they can be. And many others not mentioned here can be hand-crafted or obtained inexpensively at rummage sales and flea markets. Without more delay, here are a few more ideal and tasteful ways to make your landscaping ideas and gardening areas more functional and inviting.

Gardening sheds and Lean-tos: These structures aren’t commonly thought of as decor or focals. They’re designed for storing and cleaning your landscaping tools, starting seeds, etc. However, potters sheds and lean-to buildings are more than functional; they can also be added as design elements that will beautify your yard and your house.

Your gardening shed can be added to compliment the style of your house. Lean-tos and sheds can have paint and trim which match the colors of your house or complement your gardening color pallet. Add matching window boxes and you have a good sense of being finished.

Outdoor lighting: Low-voltage lights can be very attractive along walkways and as decorative lights to highlight specimen trees, focal points, and other outstanding picture perfect landscaping features. More importantly though, they can also add to your safety by brightening up potential hazards and dark spots. Low wattage lighting is usually a simple and safe home owner project. However, sometimes it can be in need of special wiring. In which case, you’ll need a qualified electrician. Be sure to use a qualified electrician or landscaping company trained in electrical work if you are going to have High wattage lights installed.

Berms: These are simply raised soil garden areas. Surrounded with large timbers, rock retaining walls, or free-standing, they are an impressive means in which you can add the perception or more topography, a more in perspective site, in flat spots. They are perfect for erosion control and can also be useful for creating privacy while waiting for your new plants to get large enough for private screening height. Berms should fit subtly into your landscaping, recommended heights being from 1 1/2 to 2 feet above ground level.

So be mindful that not all of your design has to be designed. Things that you might not think to be design elements may help take up more area and reduce the amount of space you have to work with.
