Education Furniture: Furniture For Kids’ Instructional Functions

Filed under: Furniture — Decor Guru @ 6:50 am

Classroom and education furniture typically fall into primary two categories - tables and chairs. Whether it’s specific computer equipment or basic chairs for a classroom, it should all be optimized for the educational environment. For a breakdown of what you should be looking for when purchasing classroom or institutional furniture, keep reading.

Basic Desks

The desk is the most basic piece of education furniture, and is a classroom staple. While traditionally desks were designed to also hold the student’s workbooks and papers, today more schools are moving toward a mobile classroom environment. That means students walk from classroom to classroom, bringing their belongings with them and making the need for desks with storage capacity or even some cabinets obsolete.

Creativity Tables

Creativity tables are typically multi-functional and can be used for everything from basic arts and crafts work to comprehensive group project meetings at the senior and secondary levels. Younger students will find a work space big enough to accommodate their projects while older students can use them for study sessions and larger projects.

Of course, if intend to purchase activity or group tables for older students, look for full-sized options. Likewise, smaller children will need lower worktables and smaller chairs. If you’re using the task table for arts and crafts activities, opt for one with an easily washable surface.

Science Desks

Typically science tables are higher and offer a clean work surface that can be easily swept and disinfected. They should also come with non-skid, adjustable legs to ensure a level work surface that won’t move or skid during an important experiment. Depending on your school, science lab or education furniture needs, you may want a table that includes drawers or space for books and lab supplies.

Task Chairs

Ideally, you want to choose a student or child’s computer chair that’s adjustable. Because children, even within the same age group, can vary wildly in terms of their height and size, it’s important to choose a task chair that can adjust so they may sit up straight, touch the floor with their feet and comfortably reach the keyboard.

Computer Workstations

As schools race into the technology age, computers are fast becoming a must-have for libraries, classrooms, computer labs and common areas. However, along with research computers, educational institutions also need computer desks or workstations. When buying a computer desk, look for one that can be adjusted, is comfortable and offers security and storage to both tuck away wires and also lock in valuable components.

Besides standard computer desks, schools might want to include laptop workstations as part of their education furniture purchases. Because so many students are starting to bring personal laptops to school to take notes and complete their homework, having laptop-ready desks in the classrooms and the libraries can be a great solution.

Save Your Money Acquiring Furniture At Auctions

Filed under: Furniture — Decor Guru @ 6:33 pm

While online auctions are quickly dominating the marketplace, real and in-person auctions are still the place to go for large ticket items like furniture. When working with an auction, there is then no need to search for product sales, discounts or clip coupons.

By allowing buyers to examine the merchandise up close and take the furniture with them when they leave, furniture auctions are a great way to pick up fantastic pieces for your home.

Keep reading if you want to learn how to save money on furniture by buying at auctions.

1. Find the Right Auction for You

If you’re looking for deals on a comfy couch set for your recreation room, you don’t need to attend a Christie’s antique auction. Part of the secret to auction success is finding the right auction for you. Check your local newspapers’ classified ads for estate sales and foreclosure auctions that fit your needs.

Become familiar with the local auctioneers in your area and ask to be included on any newsletters or email mailing lists that they send out. If you’re interested in a particular style or brand of furniture, let them know so they can keep you informed.

2. Call Ahead and Research

Before you even go to the auction site, call ahead and see if a product catalog is available. This book will list each item along with a description, the starting price and possibly a picture. Staple a piece of paper to the back to write notes and take down the item numbers of pieces that interest you.

3. Get to the Viewing

Leave enough time at the viewing to properly look at and inspect each item that has caught your eye. While auction furniture tends to be in good shape, the quality is never guaranteed. Do a quick sweep of the stock and then a more thorough investigation of any furniture pieces for which you hope to place a bid.

4. Stick to your Budget

It can be very easy to go over budget in the high-anxiety and high-energy environment of an auction. Before you even step foot into the viewing area, set a budget for yourself and stick to it. If you don’t think you can trust yourself in such an environment, ask a friend to come along to keep you in line.

5. Have Transportation on Hand

If you’re planning to make a big purchase, be ready at the end of the day with a vehicle that has sufficient cargo space. Most auctioneers will only hold an item for so long before they start charging storage fees.

Improving Your Interior Design With A Gabbeh Rug

Filed under: Rugs — Decor Guru @ 12:40 pm

How a rug looks and works in my environment is really important to me and I also want a rug that feels really soft underfoot. Gabbeh rugs deliver on both counts and I find them quite luxurious to walk on.

Gabbeh rugs are woven with high quality wool and with loose piles so they are usually really soft and thick and they stand out from a lot of other rugs because of the geometric shapes and designs. I really like that they are made by nomadic tribal weavers and I found a great selection of designs with my favourite bold colors online.

I Want A Tabriz Persian Rug

Filed under: Rugs — Decor Guru @ 12:40 pm

I love interior design and in particular I love color and Persian rugs can really bring new life to any interior with their rich color and incredible designs.

A friend of mine recently bought a Tabriz rug and it’s an awesome work of art making her dining room look like a mini palace. The rug is woven in rich bold red colors in a standard rectangular shape, however she told me that the weavers from the town of Tabriz in North Western Iran even make oval and some times diamond shaped rugs. Apparently the rugs come in a variety of colors but it’s a rare diamond rug that I would love to buy.

Malaysian Flower

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 12:32 am

When you speak about tropical countries, there is no doubt that they are rich in flora life. The weather explains; there is equal distribution of sunshine needed by chlorophyll for photosynthesis as well as rainfall that is important for vegetation to survive. Where trees are abundant, flooding would not be a problem because rain will be seep through and be absorbed by the tree roots. Asia may not be highly industrialized compared to America and Europe, but it is rich in natural resources. Without the winter season, the more flowering plants thrive in most of Asia.

With at least 20, 000 flower species in Malaysia, flowers can be easily spotted in the soils of Sabah and Sarawak. Such flowers are Touch Me Not, Yellow Allamanda, Bachelors Button, Rafflesia, Hibiscus, Ixora, Bougainvillea, Orchid, Fuchsia, Angsana, Frangipani, Lantana, Saga, Rhododendrons, Chrysanthemum, Violet Rose, Lobster Claws and Bird Of Paradise.

Touch Me Not is a Malaysian flower that is a thorny undershrub where stems are bristly. Native of Southern America, it is known to be a nuisance as a troublesome very thorny weed. With pink flowers and slender stalks, it is very fascinating due to its sensitive leaves that fold together. It also droops when caressed. The locals call it as “malu- malu” which means shy.

Yellow Allamanda is a Malaysian flower that originated from a professor of history in Leyden on the latter part of the 18th century. It is commonly seen all year round. Another ordinary from the America, it has very attractive flowers that bear the local identity of Bunga Akar Kuning and Akar Chempaka Hutan. It is a woody scrambling shrub that has oblong leaves arranged in parallel pairs along the stem. With milky sap that gushes out as soon as the parts are broken, it propagates when the stem is cut.

Frangipani is mostly seen in the vineyards and called as Bunga Kubur among the locals. It is a tree that grows so robust and often branched at different times of the year. Reaching about 6 to 10 meters in height, it is very fragrant and comes in a variety of colors.

Lobster Claw is a Malaysian Flower that belongs to the Heliconiaceae family. Colloquially recognized as Sepit Ketam due to its close resemblance to a sea creature, this hails from Peru. It blooms before onset of rain and appears like a red crab brachea that has yellow tips which cover small white flowers.

Bird of Paradise is a Malaysian Flower that is coined after the literal meaning of what it is fondly called. Also dubbed as Strelitzia, it is among the most beautiful flying fauna in the whole world. It has bright colored plumage as well as tails that are fan- like.

Desk Lamps

Filed under: Furniture — Decor Guru @ 6:06 am

From the many models of lighting items available on the market, one can simplify choice criteria by merely classifying them into functional or decorative products. Desk lamps for instance definitely fall into the first category, that of highly functional, but this doesn’t exclude artistic execution of the item. Desk lamps are definitely functional by the type of light they create, and this very much depends on the model, and the features that enable a flexibility of use when you are at the desk. The ideal types of bulbs to be used for desk lamps are those that create a natural form of light since this is the best tolerated by the human eye, without affecting vision under any form whatsoever.

As curious as it may seem, there are desk lamps that create a form of natural light, as they benefit from a specter quality that the eyes are used to during the day. When working at the desk, the illumination pattern is crucial for the proper completion of the activity, this is why it is good to always choose light emitting diodes with an organic composition. Desk lamps should be equipped with this type of bulbs that don’t emit heat like regular incandescent bulbs do, they don’t even get hot during the lighting process. On the one hand you’ll be saving a lot of energy, and on the other, you’ll benefit from almost day-like working conditions.

Before purchasing a desk lamp it is important to check the type of light pattern it creates; very sophisticated models may not easily allow the change of the light bulb they are equipped with. Hence, it could be a great idea if you tried to find a natural light generation device to help you at work, from the very beginning without your having to make any modifications. Usually such models are available if you take the time to look for your desk lamps among the fluorescent lighting systems that many manufacturers have now launched on the market.

Plenty of studies are continuously revealing the fact that we expose ourselves on a permanent basis to an incredible visual stress that could affect sight on the long term. Desk lamps may look modern and even avant-garde, but how safe are they for our health? When choosing such lights, it is best to have a few guidelines; simply give the answers to following questions! Is there going to be a computer on the desk too? How long will you be using the desk lamps per day? What type of lighting systems are you presently using? Then, you’ll definitely make a better choice!

Then, for the virtual proposal lighting solutions, the things could get even more complicated as you’d have to come up with miniature models and info-graphic designs of the systems. Last but not least, student projects are also going to be evaluated and passed for approval in case they prove viable. Therefore, get ready for a new and truly competitive lamp premios competition.

Try These Kitchen Remodeling Ideas For The Perfect Kitchen

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 11:48 pm

So you have decided that your kitchen is outdated and could use an entire remodel. You may have a few kitchen design ideas about what you want but maybe you have been unable to tie it altogether, or perhaps you may be stuck and have no idea where to start, but you have definitely decided that you will no longer suffer with that antiquated kitchen for another moment. Before you start, though, consider a few of these things that will help your remodeling go smoothly and bring you the kitchen of your dreams.

Start With the Cabinetry

One of the best things to start with is your cabinetry. This not only is a major visual focus of your kitchen, usually, but building kitchen cabinets may also take the majority of your budget. Don’t make the mistake of doing other parts of the kitchen remodel first and end up with short funds to finish out the cabinetry.

To start, find someone who specializes in kitchen cabinetry. They will understand what you are looking for and will lay the kitchen out properly so you can get all the options that you would like in there. If you want Lazy Susans in each corner cabinet, they will figure out how to make sure that there is room to accommodate this. A cabinetry pro will also be able to tell you if there will be problems with the layout that you want. For instance, they will know if plumbing must be moved to make way for a dishwasher. Planning for a small kitchen remodeling may also present some challenges due to limited space.

Upgrade Your Kitchen Appliances

If you are completely redoing your kitchen you should also upgrade your appliances. If you’re upgrading everything, good for you. Today, appliances are better designed and more energy-efficient. In general, they make life easier for you, too. In some cases, the monthly utility bill savings you enjoy will pay for the new appliances in a very short time.

What finish are you going to want for your appliances? It should go well with your cabinetry and with your kitchen colors in general. White appliances may not go well with your new cabinetry - there is however, stainless steel. Your cabinetry company will definitely need to know if you have chosen appliances which are not standard size, since this will affect the layout of your new kitchen. An example of this might be if you choose a Sub-zero refrigerator. They are much larger than a regular refrigerator and will need to have the correct room allowed for it.

Other Things to Consider

Another thing that you should keep in mind when you are laying out your dream kitchen is incorporating seating into the kitchen. In many homes the kitchen is the hub of the house so you may want to include seating. You can accomplish this, if you have the space, by adding an island in the kitchen; people will naturally gravitate to this.

When you begin to look at flooring make sure you keep in mind the ease with which it can be cleaned. A beautiful floor can be a good thing, but it’s not going to stay high on your list of favorites for long if it’s impossible to clean. Ask others for their opinions before you choose your flooring.

When trying to design your dream kitchen keep a few things in mind. Start with your cabinetry, and have a professional help you lay out your kitchen hand. Incorporate everything else as appropriate so that everything will come together just as you envisioned for your dream kitchen.

Simmons Mattresses: Cozy Beds By Simmons That Exceed Your Individual Desires

Filed under: Furniture — Decor Guru @ 5:38 am

Simmons Mattresses started making mattresses in 1870 in Wisconsin. Today, they are one of America’s largest mattress manufacturers with 18 plants across the US and Puerto Rico.

The Simmons brand of products is broken down into 5 lines or mattress styles.

Sometimes when searching for a comfortable bed, the typical more affordable mattresses, higher expense options like Select Comfort, or air beds just won’t meet the need. If instead you’re shopping specifically for a Simmons mattress, keep reading.

The Beautyrest Sleep System

Hans J Wegner: Danish Modern Icon

Filed under: Home Ideas — @ 1:07 am

The furniture (möbler) designer Hans J Wegner passed away in 2007. Hans was born in 1914 in Tonger, Denmark and became a well known figure and successful graduate of the Danish Modern School of Design. His style was using simple and clean lines that worked together to create beautiful and unobtrusive furniture .

Hans J Wegner started his career as a woodworker. Unfortunately, he was called to serve his country. He continued his training at a school that specialized in technical skills. Then he became a student at the Copenhagen Architectural Academy as well as the School of Arts and Crafts for additional training. Later, he studied with the masters Erik Moller and Arne Jacobsen.

His specialty was the construction of chairs, which he liked to think of as a work of art as well as something useful to sit upon. One of his well known philosophies was that a chair should look great from every side and that there should be no “back” but rather a flow around the chair. He wanted very simple and refined designs, but employed many different shapes and materials within his preferences.

He extended his thoughts beyond the fundamental style. Among the chairs to arise were the “peacock” style as well as complementary tables and furniture . He experimented with the comfort of his own body to style a valet piece. After his children were of age, he and his daughter worked together and are credited with creating the pole light in the last quarter of the twentieth century.

Much of the furniture Hans J. Wegner is renowned for are chairs. One of his better-known designs was the ch25 from 1950. He crafted four chairs with woven seats for Carl Hansen and Son, but this design was unique in having rope weaving in both the seat and the back of the chair, along with engineering that had the front legs being straight and bearing most of the load. The rear legs were angled, allowing greater stability than most other lounge chairs of its type.

Chair 25 was designed with the use of several different woods, and had a paper rope for the seat and the back of the chair. Also interesting about the design is the side of the seat, which is made from one piece that curves and becomes the back legs. Often Chair 25 is grouped with wicker furniture , as some consider it to look wicker in style, but Wegner’s design is in a league apart from flimsy wicker furnishings.

Hans J Wegner preferred to use catalogue numbers for his creations instead of giving them conventional nicknames. A number of his PP203 models were picked by television executives because of their simplicity and cozy feel. As a result, a great many people saw them, especially during the presidential debates by Kennedy and Nixon.

Visit http://www.contentspooling.net/public.php?id=164&a=2751 to get a unique copy of this article for your website.

Chairs are what Hans Wegner is best known for rather than his other designs (design mobler), especially wegner ch 25 (or Chair 25) which was created in 1950. He was most talented at constructing chairs, which he considered as much a work of art, as a place to sit. One of his beliefs was that chairs should appear excellent from every perspective, but there should be no “back” to the chair, just a continuous flow around the chair. He designed four chairs with woven style seats for Carl Hansen and Son; however ch 25 was the only one with rope weaving in the seat and the back.
