Home Theater Set Up Tips For A Better Viewing Experience

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 7:22 am

Organizing your home theater set up can be a tough task particularly if you are new to the experience.

Does it require a little thought? It sure does and the the last thing you need is to re-organize everything once you’ve set it all in place simply because you didn’t take a little extra care in the initial set up.

Viewing Distance

Many don’t pay much attention to tv viewing distance or where the speakers should go. The fact is, proper placement can enhance your whole viewing and listening experience so this is very important.

Television viewing distance has changed a little with the introduction of high definition. Our rule of thumb is at least two times the diagonal length of the television however, you may want to experiment by either shortening or lengthening this. Speakers

Speakers are another matter. In some instances, speakers are given first consideration however, we like to place our tv screen first and then work around it. The tv screen size can have a significant bearing on how wide apart you place the speakers.

Room size is going to play an important part in home theater set up and be warned, you may not have the option of placing your speakers at their desired placement. One thing to avoid is placing speakers hard up against a wall and depending on room dimensions, they should be at least a couple of feet from the wall.

This is important for front speakers. Speaker placement will depend on how elaborate your system is and if you are a complete novice it will be worth the cost and effort to seek extra professional advice.

Remember, home theater set up isn’t just about viewing distance and speaker placement. It’s also about furniture placement, room light, cable and wiring needs and power source.

If you don’t have the luxury of starting a room from scratch and want to transform an established area of your home then consider getting some expert advice. Cost aside, it will save you a lot of frustration in the long run!

Bamboo Furniture - Why You Should Consider Bamboo Furniture

Filed under: Furniture — Decor Guru @ 1:51 pm

While you may not consider furnishing an entire house with bamboo furniture, if you are considering replacing a chair or a table or even an entire living room suite, then give bamboo serious thought.

Thinking about the benefits of bamboo, there are three strong reasons why it has come into vogue in many areas of home decoration and improvement. Either as a window covering or floor covering, it’s benefits are well documented.

As a furniture option, it continues to rise up the popularity stakes. Given it’s many qualities, it’s no surprise.

- It’s elegant and distintive due to it’s delicate grain
- It’s strong and tough and resists both swelling and shrinkage
- It grows quickly meaning it can be harvested over and over and better still, will help in saving trees; a big plus for the environment

One of the biggest advantages with bamboo furniture is it’s ability to enhance a surrounding. You may have a favorite living room suite in your home and it’s just about the main showpiece. Well, have you considered adding a little elegance to the scenario by adding in a little furniture.

What about an additional chair to the side of the suite or a coffee table or even a side table or two?

Shopping for bamboo furniture is as easy as going online but before you do, check locally. It’s always preferable when dealing with a product such as bamboo that you can actually see it before purchasing.

This is not to say shopping online isn’t recommended. When shopping online, be careful not to make a selection by simply looking at photos. Always ask for a sample to be sent to you or even a physical catalogue. Online photos can be a little mis-leading.

It will also give you greater peace of mind particularly if you are new to purchasing bamboo furniture online.

Outdoor Security Camera Advice

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 2:34 pm

I’ve owned and operated a convenience store in the same neighborhood for nearly 15 years and in that time, I’ve seen many changes take place around here. Unfortunately, most of the changes have been for the worse. For instance, things definitely aren’t as safe in this area as they were back when I first opened the store. Back then, all I had was a basic security alarm system wired to the front and back doors, and that setup worked well enough.

But these days, I’ve had to take additional steps like installing exterior security cameras to protect my property, my employees, and myself. Obviously, the main benefit to having outdoor security cameras is that they help deter crime. Provided that the outdoor security cameras are placed in prominent positions around the store’s exterior, would-be intruders usually choose to go elsewhere to perpetrate their crimes. To their thinking, it’s much better to deal with a store that has a standard alarm system than to try to work their way around outdoor security cameras.

Another benefit that I’ve derived since installing outdoor security cameras around my store is that my monthly insurance premiums have dropped significantly. As a business owner, I have to carry a comprehensive policy to protect against a wide range of potentially damaging events and occurrences. Insurance policies for commercial property in areas like mine (where the crime rate escalates every year) are usually sky-high, so putting in outdoor security cameras in order to get a rate reduction was a very easy decision for me.

Since installing my outdoor security system, I haven’t had any problems at the store at all. I am so grateful for this that I’ve kind of made it my personal mission to convince the other business owners in my neighborhood to do the same thing. So whenever I see a small shop or storefront that doesn’t have any outdoor security cameras, I’ll actually go in and speak to the owner if he or she is available. I tell them how well outdoor security cameras have worked for me, I mention the insurance discounts, and I even give them the website addresses of a few online retailers that sell discount video surveillance equipment. I do all of this because the fact of the matter is the more stores that have outdoor security cameras, the safer the entire neighborhood will be.

So far, it seems that my campaign is going pretty well. I’ve noticed that several of the store owners I’ve talked to have in fact gone ahead and purchased outdoor security cameras. There’s still a long way to go, but I feel that I’m really making a difference in this respect. Maybe one day things will be as safe as they were when I first opened my shop doors all those years ago.

How To Shop For Bamboo window Shades

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 2:09 pm

Shopping for bamboo window shades has become as easy as typing in the term in your favorite search engine and sifting through lots of results.

Bamboo window shades will most times add a classy look to any room or decor in your home and are certainly worth considering over more conventional window blinds. The great thing about bamboo window shades is you can just install one and transform the look of any window or room. Like the exotic flavor? Well, you can’t go wrong with bamboo.

When shopping for shades the same principle applies online as off line…shop around. Get quotes from a variety of sites and then compare. Don’t be surprised if there is a substantial variance in price.

The company you finally decide is the one to do business with must meet a couple of criteria when shopping online. They need to be contactable by phone, not just email.

There have been many instances when people have liked a particular color they looked at on a computer screen and when they check a sample, or worse case scenario, the finished product, it’s completely different. Such is the nature of bamboo and shopping online.

Once you are happy with the color, then you can proceed to discuss production of your bamboo shades. Be clear on how soon before delivery takes place. You should not have to wait weeks for them to arrive.

Finally, are you a handyman? Do you think you have the ability to install your bamboo window shades. Word of warning…they can be difficult to install. When you order online you want to make sure the specs are absolutely perfect when buying made to order.

You always have the option of hiring a local handyman in your area and while the whole project make cost a little extra, it will be well worth it. Better still, you may not have to look very far by scanning your list of relatives and friends.

Precast Concrete Walls Are A Good Option

Filed under: Home Ideas — @ 12:00 am

Precast concrete walls have been used for decades in commercial building. They are now becoming increasingly popular for use in residential projects. They offer a range of advantages over traditional poured concrete walls. Precast concrete walls offer greater construction design flexibility and offer shorter construction times than poured walls.

When a builder uses poured concert walls, the biggest challenge is creating a level surface, and pouring even, square walls. When walls are precast, they are made in a factory, and delivered to the building site already square and level. The house structure can then be put together almost as with building blocks. The building time is drastically cut in half by this process.

Most precast concrete walls also have an insulated core. This makes homes more energy efficient. Further insulations can be pumped into cavities in the wall after all insulation and wiring is complete. This translates into long term savings for the home owner as well as a reduced impact on the environment.

The rods of steel used to reinforce concrete walls is another difference between poured and precast concrete walls. A poured wall can only have horizontal rods, but precast walls can have vertical rods as well. While horizontal rods are good for stabilizing a structure against shifting ground, vertical rods can also help stabilize a wall against pressure from the sides of the wall. Most residential homes have basements, with soil against the walls of those basements, which greatly increases the need for vertical rods to keep the wall strong- thus favoring precast walls with vertical rods.

Precast concrete is also satisfying fencing needs of many homeowners. Unlike wood fence, concrete fence will not rot or warp. Neither termites nor weather can impact concrete. In addition, concrete fencing doesn’t require heavy work for installation. To suite to varied finishes and texture tastes, conrete walls can be used to create stunning fence for any area.

Poured and precast concrete have some similarities. Cracks in precast concrete walls require a thoughtful care. Cracks in walls may allow moisture to enter the wall, and eventually entering your home. Please be assured to look for help if in need.

Menlo (aka The Fence Guy) has worked with the leader in concrete fence walls and high quality fences and installation services to assure the efficient execution of your landscape project. Since 1982, a variety of brands - Woodcrete, Brickcrete, Fencestone, Cedarcrete and Woodcrete Rail,- have become very popularly accepted by architects, landscape designers, engineers, residential, commercial and industrial developers, utility companies, government agencies, and others in the construction industry.

Hot Tub Bacterium: A Side Effect Of Dirty Water

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 5:36 pm

Most people buy Hot Tubs for relaxation and their therapeutic value, but without regular, proper maintenance hot tub bacterium can form and could make you sick or cause skin rashes

Mycobacterium avium, a member of the bacteria family, which causes tuberculosis, although not usually contagious, has found a pleasant neighborhood in a hot tub. It is one the Hot Tub Bacterium found to be present in tubs, which do not have a regular cleaning schedule followed.

Since chlorine loses most of its benefits for bacteria control in water over 80 degrees, these hot tub bacterium thrive in the dirty hot water of a hot tub. They will rise to the surface in the bubbles form by the circulating jets and when they bubbles pop open it is released into the air and inhaled by persons in the tub. Article on: Hot Tub Chemicals

Signs you have been infected by this hot tub bacterium include difficulty breathing, a wet-sounding cough, tightness in the chest and fatigue. A doctor usually prescribed staying out of the offending hot tub while treating the patient with steroids and, in severe cases, an external oxygen supply.

Skin Rash A Sign Of Bacteria Problem

Folliculitis is an infection to the hair follicles with many different strains, but the most common, referred to as hot tub Folliculitis is caused mainly by immersion in a hot tub, which is not under a regular cleaning schedule. This hot tub bacterium is not normally contagious but can be very uncomfortable.

It is generally more prevalent in children, who tend to stay in a hot tub longer, and outbreaks can be experienced anywhere on the body which was in the contaminated water. However, this hot tub bacterium usually shows up on the skin which was covered by a swim suit or other clothing. The infection can show up anywhere from a few hours to several days after exposure.

Since this hot tub bacterium can not survive in a dry atmosphere, the pustules will usually disappear on their own over time, vinegar compresses applied for 20 minutes every two to four hours, sulfide creams and in some cases oral antibiotics can ease the effects.

To remove this hot tub bacterium from the source, the hit tub will need to be drained and properly and thoroughly cleaned and sanitized with chlorine or other suitable sanitizer. When refilled, proper care must be taken to insure the hot tub bacterium does not have the opportunity for regrowth.

The Importance Of Home Security

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 8:49 pm

People are talked into Home Security Alarms all the time. They are told that they’ll be safer and more protected. Sometimes this is true and other times it is just making profits on vulnerable people. In this fear-based society that we live in, it is easy to sell home security alarms.

Most home security alarms come with signs to put in your yard. These are supposed to scare away potential threats. I’m not sure if the signs work for potential threats. I do know that seeing one of those signs in someone’s yard just makes me a little sad. I wonder why they are so frightened.

window decals proclaiming the presence home security alarms have become the norm. I think that most of the houses I’ve seen them on don’t have Home Security Alarms. My in-laws have a leftover sticker in the window of their new home. They don’t have any interest in home security alarms, but they also haven’t peeled off the sticker.

Good home security alarms come with a command station. Some even have voice instruction which can be helpful in emergency situations. A good many alarms that come from home alarm systems are false alarms. Rarely do real emergencies happen in which home alarm systems are helpful in any meaningful way.

Complete Wireless Home Security put sensors on windows and doors. The window sensors can be installed to either alarm for breakage or for opening. The door sensors usually just detect the state of open or closed. window sensors have varying degrees of sensitivity and can be adjusted for its specific needs.

Motion detectors are a commonly chosen component of home security alarms. Some families opt to install them in the living area to detect movement during the night. This seems a little bit paranoid to me. I think it is a little frightening to think that there are families using these devices at night just to feel safe.

Sirens for home security alarms can be very loud but then they should be. There are ways to install a system that it triggers an interior warning siren prior to a loud exterior siren. This is a really great feature because if a false alarm sounds, it can be silenced prior to waking up the neighbor. Chances are your neighbor has no interest whatsoever in home security alarms going off erroneously.

If you installed a burglar alarm and you have a dependable home security system, there is nothing to worry about and you can sleep comfortably. The would-be burglars or robbers will just pass by your house and will look for other places to commit their crimes.

Home Books

Filed under: Home Ideas — Decor Guru @ 5:59 am

This article explains a few things about Online Family Books, and if you’re interested, then this is worth reading, because you can never tell what you don’t know.

Have you purchased a “self-help” book lately? A motivational tape? How about an ebook about “achieving success”? What do they have in common?

Nine times out of ten you’re given the same instruction, “Visualize”. “See yourself 10 lbs. lighter” or “See yourself as CEO of Acme Industries”. To visualize is to see and to visualize in the mind’s eye is to IMAGINE. It’s the alpha tool of possibilities and, often, the springboard to accomplishment.

Today’s parents have all kinds of options to occupy their kids’ busy day. CDs, videos, low-tech, high-tech toys and even, the computer. The drawback? Kids participate in a passive mode or by repetitive tasks. Sadly, imagination is not an important component.

Parents are the first teachers in the most formative years of a child’s life. With a little effort, a little planning and a bit of time, parents can plant the seeds to a creative imagination. How? Read books to your kids!

The process of reading aloud is dynamic. It offers the child the opportunity to combine the spoken word with imagery…images not created by someone else, but uniquely created in the mind of that child.

How to begin? Start with picture books. They’re the “training wheels”. They introduce kids to shapes and colors and context. Illustrated books are a great way for children to see the relationship of words to images, albeit, someone else’s images.

The next step? Books with no illustrations. Read aloud. This experience switches your kids into an active mode of visualization. They process the words and create the images. All it takes is your participation.

Practice makes perfect. The more often you read to your kids, the more often they have the opportunity to develop their mind skills. They create the images, they organize the images, they sort the images, they categorize the images, they recall and visualize the images…they imagine!
